PANJIM: The State government has initiated steps to implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 at the middle stage (Grade 6), and Grade 10 of secondary stage from the academic year 2025-2026.
The Directorate of Education has issued instructions to the academic institutions for effective implementation of NEP at these levels. As per NEP-2020, the School Education is restructured as Foundational Stage (Balvatikal to Grade 2), Preparatory Stage (Grade 3 to Grade 5), Middle Stage (Grade 6 to Grade 8) and Secondary Stage (Grade 9 to Grade 12) covering ages 3 to 18 years.
Goa has implemented NEP-2020 at the Foundational Stage (Balvatika 1) in the year 2023-2024 and at Balvatika 2 of Foundational stage and Secondary Stage (Grade 9) in the year 2024-2025. The NEP was introduced in the country in July 2020.
The instructions have been issued for effective implementation of NEP-2020 under the State Curriculum Framework for Grade 6 and Grade 10 with effect from the next academic year.
New textbooks will be introduced to Grade 6 in all the curricular areas, while existing textbooks will be used for the Grade 9 and 10.
Each period will be of 40 minutes duration. All institutions have been asked to maintain minimum five-and-half instructional hours which shall not include assembly and
recess. "
"School assembly may be include as a part of remedial teaching. The school timings may be decided by the schools concerned in consultation with all stakeholders," states the circular issued by Director of Education Shailesh R Sinai Zingde.
