In a bold step toward sustainable urban development, the Goa government will soon mandate the Vertical Forest concept for all buildings with a Floor Space Index (FSI) above 250–300. This landmark policy, spearheaded by the Urban Development, Town & Country Planning, and Forest Departments, aims to boost urban greenery and promote eco-friendly construction in high-density areas.
According to Town & Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane, Occupancy Certificates will be issued only if developers fully comply with the Vertical Forest guidelines, which are expected to be notified officially soon.
Alongside this, Minister Rane also announced an ambitious greening initiative to convert the legacy dump site at Sonsodo into a thriving green zone.
As part of this state-wide environmental campaign, the government plans to plant 5 lakh trees across Goa within the next three months, reinforcing its commitment to combating climate change and improving public health.
Praising local leadership, Rane said Goa needs the vision of MLA Digambar Kamat to ensure the success of such transformative environmental efforts.
The combined initiatives mark a significant shift in Goa’s developmental strategy, blending infrastructure growth with ecological responsibility.
