PANJIM: Goa Handicrafts will promote artisans making clay Ganesh idols, Pravin Arlekar, MLA & Chairman of the Goa Handicrafts, Rural, and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd said

on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after disbursing subsidies under the Clay Ganesh Idol Scheme to promote handicraft artisans, he said,” The artisans who make Ganesh idols were not getting any support from the government. They portray their art through the idols which are sold. But they were not getting any support for selling those idols. That is why the government has decided to give them two emporiums. I urge the artisans to contact the Handicraft Department and avail the benefits.”

“There are various reasons because of which the artisans were not getting support but now effort is being made to support them so that they be encouraged to pass on the art they have to the next generation,” Arlekar said.

“The government cannot provide jobs to everybody but if one has art then he or she can earn livelihood easily,” he said.
