A six-year-old girl, Zoya Hussain, lost her life in a tragic drowning incident at Baga Beach, Goa, on Sunday evening. Zoya, who was visiting from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, had been playing near the water with her 10-year-old brother when she slipped from his grasp and was pulled in by a strong current. The children’s caretaker was reportedly distracted by a phone call at the time. The incident took place around 8:10 pm, and tourist police on patrol were quickly alerted. Lifeguards, the fire department, and local police soon joined the search operation.
A search operation was launched, and after nearly an hour, Zoya’s body was found about a kilometre away near a shack on the beach at around 9:16 pm. Although she initially showed faint signs of life, resuscitation attempts by the police and medical staff at the Candolim Primary Health Centre were unsuccessful, and she was declared brought in dead. Police have registered a case, and the body has been sent for post-mortem at Goa Medical College as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
