Colva Police Investigate Fraud After Woman Scammed in Alleged Money Laundering Hoax

A woman from Carmona has filed a police complaint after being defrauded of ₹4.5 lakh by a man who allegedly posed as an officer from the Delhi Police. According to the complaint lodged at the Colva Police Station, the accused contacted the woman through a WhatsApp video call and falsely claimed that she was involved in a money laundering investigation.

During the call, the impersonator reportedly pressured the woman into transferring ₹4,50,000 to a bank account, supposedly to resolve the issue and avoid legal trouble. The victim later realized she had been duped and approached the police for help.

The Colva Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the accused or whether any arrests have been made.

Incidents involving fraudsters impersonating law enforcement officers have become increasingly common, particularly via social media and messaging platforms. Police have urged the public to be cautious and verify the identities of anyone demanding money or sensitive information, especially under threats of legal action.
