The Goa government is moving forward with plans to create the State’s third district, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announcing that decisions regarding the name and headquarters of the new district will be made soon.

The proposed district is expected to comprise the talukas of Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, and Dharbandora. The government is currently evaluating suitable locations for the district headquarters based on accessibility and connectivity for all four talukas.

Speaking to reporters, CM Sawant said, “We are in the process of finalizing the name and the headquarters for Goa’s third district. Connectivity to all included talukas will be a key factor in our decision-making. An announcement will be made shortly.”

The formation of a third district aims to improve administrative efficiency and bring government services closer to people in South Goa’s hinterland regions. The existing districts are North Goa and South Goa, with headquarters in Panaji and Margao, respectively.

The move is seen as a significant step toward decentralizing governance and improving infrastructure in the interior parts of the state.
