The long-delayed Davorlim School Complex, envisioned as a major education hub to decongest Margao town by relocating city schools, continues to languish in uncertainty. Though the concept was floated over a decade ago, and land demarcation efforts began in 2022, there has been negligible on-ground progress since.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai recently raised the issue during a Question Hour in the Goa Assembly, highlighting the lack of development and rising concerns over possible encroachments. Despite government assurances, the site remains undeveloped, raising alarm among locals and elected representatives alike.
One major concern is that while land was acquired for the project, villagers in Davorlim have urged that a portion be earmarked for local infrastructure. Additionally, the absence of proper road connectivity has triggered fears that shifting schools to the village could simply transfer Margao’s congestion to Davorlim rather than resolve it.
Chief Minister and Education Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has previously assured the Assembly that the project would move forward. In late 2023, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar stated that Dr. Sawant had promised to begin allotting land plots to educational institutions within four months. However, by mid-2025, there is still no visible progress, physical work, or updated government communication on the matter.
The lack of clarity and movement has left residents frustrated and the project in a state of limbo. With encroachment risks growing and public patience wearing thin, pressure is mounting on the government to act decisively and begin tangible work before the vision of the Davorlim School Complex fades into yet another unfulfilled promise.
