PANJIM: The State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, (CSTT), New Delhi, Ministry of Education in the Mantralaya, Porvorim, to prepare, coin and frame technical terminology in Konkani language.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that this collaboration with CSTT is a good opportunity for Goan students to get access to scientific words in Konkani which will help them easily understand the subject. He said that in the long run, this building of lexicon in Konkani will help in the National Education Policy (NEP) in schools and higher education. This will also be a great boost to the Konkani language, the Chief Minister added.
CSTT chairperson Prof Girish Nath Jha, spoke of the mandate the CSTT has in creating technical terminology in India languages. He said that they hoped to establish a Granth Academy in Goa.
He said that the CSTT would like to create glossary in Konkani.
but also help create content which will be extremely beneficial to students.
The CSTT is the only authority to create, coin, frame technical terminology in India languages. This signing of MoU with the Directorate of Official Languages will help prepare, coin and frame technical terminology in Konkani language. Besides, it will help in creating text books in regional languages and will be useful for translation purpose and research purpose.
Secretary (Education) Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, played an important role in getting the MoU through.
So far, a workshop in order to achieve this endeavour was conducted in August and September this year covering fundamentals in Mass Communication/Journalism, Chemistry and Learners Glossary for school level in Mathematics, Environmental Studies and Computer Science. A workshop in Fundamentals in Zoology, Agriculture, and Learners in Chemistry, Computer Science and Maths for High School is currently on. More are slated to be conducted soon.
