PANJIM: An obnoxious advertisement ‘Delhi, Rulers of India, Now Conquer Goa’ has kicked up a storm, with the State government asking the builder to immediately withdraw it for hurting the sentiments of the people of Goa.
Under Secretary (Home-I) Manesh Hari Kedar issued notice to the manager of House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).
The builder has been asked to immediately withdraw the advertisement stating that it was ‘highly objectionable and obnoxious and had hurt the sentiments of the people of Goa’, and failing with, appropriate action will be initiated against him and the agency.
The action came after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant wrote to the Home Department asking for action, pointing out that statements like ‘conquer Goa’ were highly objectionable and ‘tend to hurt the sentiments of proud residents of independent Goa’.
Also, the activists and residents of Karapur-Sarvan village are up in arms against the mega project by the same builder, where 1,700 plots are to be developed on lakhs of square metres of land. They had also objected to the builder for holding Goa Property Expo at Gurugram and Noida in June this year.
The gram sabha of Karapur-Sarvan Village Panchayat held in July had also opposed the proposed project and demanded that the provisional no objection certificate (NOC) given for the project be withdrawn and the development permission given to a real estate firm be revoked.
The villagers are apprehending that the project will predominantly destroy lives of people residing in the village. They have termed the project as investment driven and marketed for its speculative commercial potential.
Karapur-Sarvan sarpanch Tanvi Swant had clarified that the NOC was given only for developing the plot, not for developing the mega project.
