Govt to reappoint retired school headmasters due to manpower crisis

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to reappoint 11 retired government school headmasters till the end of the current academic year.

Briefing media persons post cabinet meeting at Porvorim, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government decided to extend their service because of shortage of headmasters in government schools.

The cabinet approved a proposal to engage services of former senior surgeon Dr Santosh Naik beyond the age of 65 years in the sub-district hospital at Ponda on contract basis for a period of two years and till the post is filled on regular basis. He will be available in the hospital twice a week. The government had advertised the post on two occasions but could not fill the post as suitable candidates were not available.

The cabinet approved assistant pharmaceutical chemist on contractual basis in the IPHB, Bambolim, for a period of one year.

Sawant said that the cabinet decided to transfer the cattle field plant situated at Usgao from the Cooperation Department to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services. The cattle feed plant was closed. But now the land has been transferred from one department to another government department, he said.

The cabinet also gave ex-post facto approval to two bills one related to Covid-19 and another Rs 14 crore bill of a pharmacy.

Regarding the ongoing tenant verification drive undertaken by the police, the Chief Minister said the police will continue to carry out random checks and owners who do not submit tenant verification forms will be fined between Rs 1,000 and Rs 10,000. These owners will also be made a party to the crime if their tenants are unregistered and commit crimes.
