Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Amit Patkar on Wednesday firmly denied claims linking the Congress party to the contentious coal Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Patkar highlighted that the 2007–2012 Congress government had opposed the expansion plans of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), citing concerns over environmental degradation and Goa’s potential destruction.

Addressing remarks by Min Sudin Dhavalikar, Patkar said, “Let him not misguide Goans. He was part of that Cabinet, which stood firmly against coal transportation projects. Congress never supported the project.”

The statement comes amid ongoing debates over coal transportation and infrastructure projects in the state, with political parties attempting to clarify their positions ahead of public scrutiny.
