GSPCB Issues Show-Cause Notice to Mapusa Gold Workshop for Operating Without Pollution Clearance
Published on

The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued a show-cause notice to a gold workshop in Mapusa for operating without obtaining the mandatory “Consent to Operate” under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.

In the notice dated June 30, the Board directed the workshop to respond within seven days, warning that failure to do so may result in closure proceedings. This action comes despite earlier directions issued in May, which the unit allegedly ignored by neither securing the required clearance nor replying to the Board’s communication.

The GSPCB said it also received an email complaint alleging that the workshop continues to operate without the necessary permissions. Taking serious note of this, the Board stated that the matter is under active scrutiny, and enforcement action will follow if the violations are confirmed.

The incident highlights growing concerns over non-compliance with environmental regulations in small-scale industrial units. The GSPCB has reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement of pollution control norms across Goa.
