The Fr Freddy J Da Costa Memorial Trust has officially announced the recipients of the prestigious Gulab Awards 2024 and the Felicio Cardoso Journalism Award 2024. These honours, instituted by Gulab, the leading Konkani monthly, recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of literature, journalism, and public life.
This year’s Gulab Personality of the Year is Prabhakar Dattatray Bhide, a pioneering Konkani publisher and founder of Rajhauns Pvt. Ltd. Known for his contribution to multilingual publishing across Konkani, Marathi, English, and other languages, Bhide has played a pivotal role in shaping Goa’s literary landscape.
Teotonio Costa, a veteran tiatrist, writer, and journalist, has been named Gulab Writer of the Year. With a career spanning over 50 tiatrs, 16 original plays, and a respected television presence through Mannkam Motiam, Costa is celebrated for his dedication to promoting Konkani culture.
The Felicio Cardoso Journalism Award 2024 will be conferred on Rupesh Samant, Head of the PTI Goa Bureau and Director of Goa News Hub. With over two decades of experience in media, Samant is recognized for his balanced and ethical journalism.
The awards ceremony will take place on July 20, at Ravindra Bhavan’s Conference Hall, Margao, at 3.30 pm, marking the 72nd birth anniversary of Fr Freddy J Da Costa, founder of Gulab.
The event will feature renowned hotelier and Konkani publisher Agnelo Alcasoas as Chief Guest. Rev Fr Myron Barreto noted Konkani writer and Director of New Age Printers, will serve as guest of honour, while Rev Fr Victor Ferrão, historian and former professor at Rachol Seminary, will deliver the keynote address.
Additionally, two prominent Goans will be felicitated with Fr Freddy Memorial Gulab citations, Cyriaco Dias, legendary tiatrist and freedom fighter, will receive the Gulab Tiatrist Felicitation for his lifelong contributions to Konkani theatre and Goa’s liberation movement, Vincent D’Silva, former judge and respected cultural figure, will be honoured with the Gulab Vevsai felicitation.
