The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) has demanded a thorough investigation into the tragic death of 74-year-old senior citizen Berta Mascarenhas e Pinto, who was fatally run over by a bus at Betalbatim. In a strongly worded statement, the forum expressed deep concern over the rising number of road accidents involving vulnerable pedestrians, particularly senior citizens, and called for accountability from authorities.
The GWF has urged the police to conduct an impartial and comprehensive probe into the circumstances that led to the accident. It demanded that strict legal action be initiated against the bus driver responsible, stressing that negligence on the road cannot be excused at the cost of innocent lives. The forum also insisted that the victim’s family be adequately compensated, pointing out that monetary relief, though not a substitute for the loss, would provide some support in their time of grief.
