MARGAO: Pursuant to the writ petition filed by cycling enthusiasts led by Chetan Salkar against the functioning of the Cycling Association of Goa (CAG), the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court deferred the holding of the elections of the Association’s Executive Committee, which was to be held on Friday itself.
Speaking to media persons after the verdict, Salkar said he and his co-petitioners felt they got justice with the verdict and pointed out to how their petition had pointed out to alleged manipulation by the Association not just with regard to the elections but also the alleged embezzlement of funds.
The HC had directed the all the parties connected to the petition to appear before the Inspector General (IG) of Societies on October 24, where the questions that came up during the hearing would have to be taken up. These were regarding the alleged deprivation of voting rights of members of the association and related to such complaints. The HC also directed that once the IG decides on these questions and passes its order, fresh elections would process would commence. A timeframe was also given to the IG regarding this and when the next elections should be held.
