HC disposes of anticipatory bail application of Subhash Velingkar

The Goa bench of Bombay High Court disposed the anticipatory bail application of former RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar citing his full cooperation with the investigation officer and his compliance with the notice under section 35 of BNSS.

Advocate Amit Palekar representing the plaintiff Velim MLA Cruz Silva stated that since Velingkar has agreed to comply the question of arrest does not arise.

According to the high court, there is no question of arrest since Velingkar has agreed to compliance. The main application has been disposed of today. The sum up of today’s proceedings was that if in future the police continue their interrogation then Velingkar will have to cooperate with police.

The defence lawyer Adv Pravin Pathak stated that the matter stands disposed since we have complied with the conditions and requested to expunge certain remarks made by the Additional session court judge on the merits of the case.

We went to the police station on Thursday (10 October 2024) and Friday (11 October 2024) and we have complied with all the conditions as of today so matte stands disposed of. There were certain remarks made by the judge of the trial court. We have specifically them pointed out to expunge these remarks which changes the natures of the case.

The controversy erupted when Shubhash Velingkar made an offensive speech on St Francis Xavier’s body and that a DNA testing should be done to prove the authenticity of the body on October 1, 2024, at Bicholim. The FIR was not filed until after a huge gathering of people blocked the roads in Margao and refused to vacate till he was arrested. On October 7, his bail application was rejected, but he has not been arrested
