HERALD IMPACT: Horticulture Farm in Goa Revived After Water Scarcity Issue Is Addressed
Published on

Horticulture farms in Goa are facing a serious challenge due to water scarcity, despite the government's ongoing efforts to promote agriculture through various schemes. Farms in Molcornem have particularly suffered, with Costão Gracias' agricultural farm at Devlamol being completely destroyed due to insufficient water supply for irrigation. The lack of water, compounded by limited resources from the Water Resources Department (WRD), had left the farm on the brink of collapse.

The issue was brought to light by Herald media, which played a key role in bringing attention to the water shortage. Following media coverage, Deputy Collector Manohar Karekar intervened, taking immediate action to resolve the issue. He instructed the WRD to provide the much-needed water supply, ensuring that the farm received water for five continuous days. This intervention revitalized the farm, transforming what was once dry land into a blossoming green farm once again.

The WRD has now assured Costão that his farm will not face water scarcity in the future. However, it is disheartening that such issues often require media intervention to be addressed, highlighting the need for more proactive governance in supporting agriculture.
