NEW DELHI/PANJIM: Goa was one of the final destinations for the Colombian cocaine that was seized at the massive drugs bust in Delhi on Wednesday.

The contraband haul that is reportedly valued at Rs 5,600 crore has blown the lid off an international cartel’s India operations, leading to the arrest of the kingpin and his three gang members.

The cocaine was seized from a godown in Mahipalpur in Delhi. According to police sources, it would have finally found its way to four big music festivals and concerts across Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa over the next six months.

According to police sources, the drugs would have been concealed in cardboard boxes with shirts and delivered to customers via courier.

Delhi Police first got a whiff of the contraband back in August and started tracking the cartel closely, leading up to Wednesday’s raid. A team led by Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha was involved in the surveillance of the operatives.

Sources have revealed that the cocaine travelled from Columbia, Peru and other South American countries to reach India.

Simultaneously in Goa, the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police arrested a Nigerian with drugs worth Rs 4.60 lakh at Siolim.

AAP State president Adv Amit Palekar said, “Drugs are spreading like wildfire across the country. Without the involvement of some border agencies huge consignment of drugs cannot enter India. Cocaine is dangerous in security point of view and hydroponic marijuana are legalised in Thailand."

"The huge quantity has to be either shipped or brought by air route. Our security is porous and it need to be tightened. In Goa police are arrested drug peddlers and not big drug dealers", Palekar added

Velim AAP MLA Cruz Silva said, “This is one of the main reasons why we were opposing an EDM in South Goa and the drug link to the festival is coming out in the open now.”

Silva further said that the dealers were the ones benefiting the most.

“To expand their market, they wanted to bring it to the South but we have vowed to oppose it, to protect our youth" he said.

Goyche Fudle Pilge Khatir (GFPK) president Jack Mascarenhas, said, “The recent major drug bust highlights the severe risks associated with large events like the controversial EDM festival. The cocaine was intended for major events in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa."

Dipesh Naik, a resident of Porvorim said, “Goa is always considered as a sacred place. It is unfortunate that the government is promoting EDMs which bring in all type of vices mostly drugs. In the past there were deaths due to overdose of drugs at such events. Everybody know that drugs are sold at the EDM venue and the police are asking for evidence.”
