High Court Cancels GCA Elections Scheduled for August 24; Fresh Polls on September 16

The High Court has set aside the upcoming Goa Cricket Association (GCA) elections originally scheduled for August 24, directing that fresh polls be held on September 16. The ruling comes in response to a petition filed by Joint Secretary Rupesh Naik and four others, who alleged procedural violations in fixing the earlier election date.

The petitioners claimed that the GCA President and Vice President unilaterally decided on the August 24 poll date without following due process or consulting the association's managing committee, thereby breaching established norms.

Taking note of the allegations, the court ruled that the election process lacked transparency and procedural fairness. It ordered that the elections be rescheduled with proper adherence to the GCA’s governing rules.

This development has stirred the state’s cricketing circles, with several stakeholders now preparing for a fresh round of electoral contest under judicial supervision.
