High Court Orders Probe into Cuncolim Chief Officer for Allegedly Shielding Illegal Constructions
Published on

The High Court has directed the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) to initiate an investigation into serious allegations against the Chief Officer of Cuncolim Municipal Council, accused of shielding illegal constructions in exchange for alleged protection money.

The court noted the presence of multiple illegal structures within Cuncolim jurisdiction and expressed concern over the alleged inaction of the municipal authorities. The Chief Officer is alleged to have ignored or protected these constructions instead of taking lawful action, raising questions of administrative complicity.

The DMA has been instructed to submit a compliance report within three months, detailing the findings of the inquiry and any action taken against the official if wrongdoing is established.

The order comes in response to a petition highlighting rampant unauthorized construction activities in the town and the alleged failure of municipal authorities to enforce building laws and regulations.

The court’s directive is seen as a stern warning against administrative negligence and a move to restore accountability in municipal governance.
