The São João celebration at Holy Trinity Parish, Nagoa-Arpora-Baga, on 29th July was a joyful tribute to unity, faith, and rich Goan heritage. The festivities began at noon with the solemn recitation of the Angelus, gathering parishioners in prayer and reflection. This spiritual start set a meaningful tone for the vibrant day ahead—one that beautifully blended devotion with tradition.
Soon after, the parish came alive with colour and energy as all 14 wards took part in a lively March Past. Residents of all ages dressed in traditional festive wear, many donning straw hats and colourful sashes, as they marched proudly through the village lanes. Accompanied by spirited music, drumbeats, and singing, each ward displayed its identity with banners, flags, and creative presentations, showcasing a deep sense of pride and community spirit.
Following the parade, everyone gathered for a delicious traditional Goan lunch, lovingly prepared by members from each ward. The feast featured beloved local dishes such as pork vindaloo, sorpotel, fish curry, and sweet treats like bibinca and dodol. The meal was more than a culinary delight—it was a celebration of togetherness, where neighbours bonded over shared culture and hospitality.
Throughout the afternoon, laughter echoed as children enjoyed traditional games and elders shared memories of São João celebrations gone by. The day served as a vibrant reminder of the festival’s role in preserving Goan identity, promoting parish unity, and nurturing community ties.
At its heart, the São João celebration at Holy Trinity Parish was a shining example of what makes Goa unique—faith, festivity, and the joy of coming together.
