MARGAO: The All-Goa Small Scale Responsible Fisheries Union (AGSSRFU) has sounded the alarm over increasing incidents of night-time hooliganism along the Zuari river coast, on the beach belt starting from Dona Paula until Siridao Beach. In a formal complaint addressed to the Home Secretary, Directorate of Fisheries, and Coastal Security, the Union highlighted the growing safety concerns for local fishers due to unruly behaviour on the beaches after dark.

AGSSRFU President Shaila D’mello and Secretary Laximan Mangueshkar emphasised the urgent need for authorities to step in and address the situation, which poses not only a safety risk but also affects the livelihoods of local fishing communities. “It’s not just about the broken glass; it’s about the safety of our fishermen. We need action before someone gets seriously hurt,” the letter reads.

The Union is now awaiting a response from the authorities, hoping for swift action to curb the nighttime chaos and restore safety on the beaches. Incidentally, this has been a complaint of fishermen from other parts of the coastal belt of Goa too.
