How safe is the Sada retaining wall?

How safe is the Sada retaining wall?
Published on

Aportion of the under-construction retaining wall near the Sada flyover recently gave way during heavy rains. The wall is being built to prevent landslides along the highway, which poses a constant threat to both motorists and pedestrians. It is reported that nearly 10 meters of the wall collapsed, and restoration work will be carried out by the contractor at his own cost.

It appears that the wall is being constructed with black stones, which raises concerns about its strength and durability. The larger question, however, is—how safe is the remaining portion of the wall? Will it be able to withstand heavy monsoon showers in the future?

If another collapse occurs, it could prove disastrous as the wall is located dangerously close to the busy highway connecting Sada to Verna. The concerned authorities must therefore conduct a thorough stability test of the structure and ensure that proper construction standards are followed. Preventive action now can avert a tragedy later.
