MARGAO:Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari’s announcement of the NH66 expansion from Navelim to Cuncolim has brought much-needed relief to residents of Cuncolim, particularly those in the Panzorconne area. The decision to construct a flyover at the entrance to Cuncolim town has been welcomed by the local community, as it addresses concerns about the highway expansion affecting residential areas.

According to officials, the proposed flyover will begin at the entrance of Panzorconne and connect to the highway near the defunct NUSI hospital. This alignment ensures minimal disruption to the homes and lives of residents, who had previously voiced strong opposition to the highway passing close to their locality.

The decision also comes as a resolution to longstanding demands for a bypass in the Cuncolim area. While the government has opted against the earlier proposal to construct a bypass from Sarzora along the Konkan Railway tracks, it has finalized an alternative plan. The Cuncolim bypass will now start near Uskini Bandh, a few meters before the town’s bus stand, and run through Sanvorcotto and Comba Parricotto before meeting the National Highway at Balli.

With this announcement, the NH66 expansion in Cuncolim is expected to move forward with reduced resistance.
