A dramatic accident occurred in Sulcorna village on Saturday afternoon when a speeding car overturned after colliding with a parked vehicle, causing extensive property damage but, fortunately, no serious injuries. The incident took place in front of the home of Rajanikant Devidas, whose roadside hut was completely destroyed in the crash.
According to initial reports from Quepem police, the driver was traveling from Balli to Netravali and is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle reportedly lost control, slammed into a stationary car, and overturned from the impact. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, and the force of the collision flattened Devidas’s hut, leaving his family temporarily homeless.
Despite the severity of the crash, no major injuries were reported. Locals and passersby rushed to the scene to help those involved and ensure their safety.
Police arrived promptly and carried out a panchanama (on-site inspection) to document the incident and assess the extent of the damage. Eyewitness statements were recorded, and authorities are reviewing any available CCTV footage to determine the exact sequence of events.
The identity of the driver has not yet been made public. However, medical tests are expected to confirm whether alcohol played a role in the accident.
Meanwhile, Rajanikant Devidas and his family are receiving assistance from local authorities and community members in the wake of losing their home.
