
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Goa until September 6 as the state continues to experience heavy monsoon showers.
Goa has already crossed the 100-inch rainfall mark this season, indicating a normal monsoon even with a month still remaining. Between June 1 and August 27, the state recorded 103 inches of rain, closely matching the normal average of 102.9 inches for the same period. Updated data up to August 31 shows Goa has received 113.3 inches, about 7% above the average of 105.8 inches.
This monsoon season has also seen intense single-day downpours, with July 3 recording the highest daily rainfall at 6.3 inches, followed by August 28 with 6.2 inches. Residents and commuters are advised to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines during heavy rainfall periods.
