In response to persistent concerns from residents, the Railways have constructed a retaining wall at Hollant, a move prompted by community pressure conveyed through the Velsao panchayat.
The decision followed a meeting involving local social worker Roquezinho D’Souza, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. Taking note of the issue, the Chief Minister directed railway authorities to take immediate action, leading to the construction of the wall aimed at preventing erosion and improving safety.
Commenting on the development, D’Souza criticized individuals who had previously protested against railway activities but later accepted compensation and left the affected area, leaving others behind to face unresolved issues. “Instead of clashing with the Railways, people should advocate for realistic solutions such as overbridges, underpasses, or retaining walls,” he said.
The construction has been welcomed by local residents who had long sought a resolution to the risks posed by ongoing railway work in the area.
