Job scam queen-pin Pooja Naik in handcuffs again

BICHOLIM: Pooja Naik, a key accused in the ongoing 'Cash for Jobs' scam investigation, was on Wednesday remanded in police custody for five days, soon after she had got bail in another case.

The Bicholim police arrested Naik in connection with the government job recruitment scam on Tuesday, soon after she was released on conditional bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Ponda. She was handed the fresh remand order by the JMFC Bicholim.

According to the Bicholim police, Naik was arrested on the basis of a complaint from a youth, who said that she allegedly took Rs 2 lakh from him with the promise of getting him a constable’s post with the state police. The Porvorim police are also likely to take her into custody based on a cheating case is also registered against her.

Sources said that the police have found nearly 50 applications of job aspirants from her residence. Most of these applications were for posts in the PWD, Department of Transport, River Navigation Department (RND) and Directorate of Agriculture.

The police are also likely to quiz those who secured government jobs by giving money to Naik and others who had submitted their CVs to her.

CM ASSURES ACTION

Meanwhile, in response to the job scam case, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday promised a thorough investigation that will lead to chargesheets in all related cases.

Addressing a press conference after the State cabinet meeting at Mantralaya, Porvorim, he said, "Thorough investigation in all the cases will be conducted and no one will be spared. If someone has a grievance, he or she should file a formal complaint with the police in their area. Chargesheet is being filed against the arrested, while the absconding will also be caught soon."

The Chief Minister, however, advised people not to trust those who claim to give government jobs. " There are some who are ready to pay money for jobs that have not been advertised. People need to remain alert," he said. Sawant said the State government will soon begin issuing job advertisements through the Goa Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
