PANJIM: The newly constituted 13-member Kala Academy Task Force inspected the Kala Academy Complex on Monday, ahead of its first meeting scheduled at ESG hall, Panjim on October 22.
Problems have been identified and they are solvable, informed theatre artiste Vijay Kenkre, who heads the committee.
Last month, the State government appointed the Task Force to review the present status of infrastructure works of the Kala Academy building and to suggest recommendations for its improvement and upgradation.
Things have not gone out of hand. From today’s inspection we noticed some minor issues with structure, sound and air-conditioning which can be rectified.
“Kala Academy is one of India's best institutes and we will take every step to preserve it. We have identified problems. We are working towards it,” said Kenkre.
Kenkre said that he staged his drama at Kala Academy auditorium recently and that he saw what happened during the performance.
“Whatever we observed during today’s inspection will be discussed in Tuesday's meeting. The contractor did not come on Monday. We have called him for the Tuesday meeting,” said Devidas Amonkar, one of the representatives of the Kala Rakhonn Mandd, Goa, who had demanded white paper on the restoration process of Kala Academy.
Another inspection may be held soon before the committee submits its report to the government.
The Kala Academy was in the eye of storm for its shoddy work inviting public wrath and approaching the High Court to seek directions to the government.
