Commuters traveling on Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) buses are raising serious concerns over alleged fare manipulation, accusing the state-run service of overcharging passengers under the pretext of a “route change” that doesn't actually exist.
According to multiple passengers, KTC buses have recently started charging ₹20 for a journey from the bus stand to Campal — a route that previously cost only ₹9. The justification? A supposed route alteration. But commuters say the buses are merely taking one extra loop within the bus stand premises, with no actual deviation from the original route.
“There is no route change at all. It’s the same path, same destination — just one unnecessary round inside the bus stand, and suddenly we’re paying more than double,” said one frustrated passenger.
Locals are calling it a “clear loot” by the transportation body, with many questioning how such arbitrary fare hikes are being allowed without official notice or justification.
“This is unjust and unfair. If there's no significant route extension or increase in distance, how can Kadamba justify such a drastic hike?” said another commuter.
Calls are growing for Kadamba officials and the Transport Department to address the issue and clarify the rationale behind the increased fare. Many passengers are demanding immediate rollback of the new charges and increased transparency in fare policies.
As of now, Kadamba Transport Corporation has not released an official statement on the controversy.
