Karnataka Schools Introduce Konkani in Kannada, Romi, and Devanagari Scripts

The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA) has presented strong evidence that schools and colleges in Karnataka are already teaching Konkani using three scripts—Devanagari, Roman, and Kannada—challenging recent claims made by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

GRLA’s findings contradict CM Sawant’s assertion that Konkani education is imparted solely in the Devanagari script. The organization highlighted that Karnataka's inclusive approach to script usage supports broader linguistic representation and learning accessibility.

Calling for similar progress in Goa, GRLA has urged the state government to adopt a multiscript model for Konkani education. Advocates argue that such a step would respect the linguistic diversity of Goa’s communities and ensure equal educational opportunities for students familiar with different scripts.
