PONDA: The crocodile-infested nullah at Kavlem has raised concerns among the residents of Kavlem and Ramnathi, as they are left worried about their safety, especially during the immersion of Ganesh idols.
The locals have urged the Water Resources Department and the Goa State Wetlands Authority to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
They suspect that the crocodiles may have come from the Zuari river through a nullah connected to the river.
The locals said that these crocodiles were previously seen downstream at Ramnathi, but their population seems to have increased, and they have now reached Kavlem.
Sameer Naik, an animal rescue squad member said he noticed these crocodiles in the Kavlem water body.
The locals said that in recent times, massive crocodiles have been spotted by the people on the banks of the Zuari river.
So far no untoward incidents have been reported at the Kavlem and Ramnathi, which are tourist spots.
