PONDA: Kavlem and Talaulim locals have opposed the sudden closure of one lane of a two-way road below the overbridge for painting and footpath work, which they claimed has caused traffic chaos during the festival shopping season.

Questioning the timing of road closure, they argued that the work was not urgent and should be undertaken after the Ganesh Chaturthi to avoid inconveniencing people.

They demanded that at present the road should be kept open to the public for festival shopping. The locals also highlighted the lack of traffic diversion signboards at the site and urged the authorities to complete the work after the festival.

Kisan Naik, a local, said that the people from at least five panchayats use this road and added that already there is rush of traffic for shopping and the closure of one lane road is disrupting the traffic.
