Key Sewage and Infrastructure Issues Addressed in Joint Meeting Chaired by Margao MLA and Additional Collector

A joint meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and the Additional Collector to address two pressing civic issues in the city—sewage management in low-lying areas and the deteriorating condition of old buildings.

The meeting focused on finding long-term solutions to the chronic sewage overflow problems in areas such as Khareband, Comba, Malbhat, and Aquem. As part of the proposed solution, it was decided to install pumping stations in five key locations where laying sewage lines is technically unfeasible. Officials revealed that new technology is being introduced specifically to address the challenges in these low-lying zones.

“We have introduced innovative solutions to manage sewage in these critical areas and decided on setting up pumping stations where conventional systems are not possible,” said MLA Digambar Kamat after the meeting.

The second issue discussed was the structural safety of old buildings in Margao. With several aging and potentially dangerous structures in the city, the authorities agreed to conduct a joint survey to identify and assess the most at-risk buildings.

“After the survey, the Collector will initiate the necessary process to address the issue of dangerous buildings,” Kamat added.

Both initiatives are aimed at improving public safety and urban infrastructure in one of South Goa’s most densely populated towns.
