In observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day, Konkan Railway organized an impactful street play (nukkad natak) at Level Crossing No. 46 near Damodar Gate, Comba, Margao. The initiative aimed to educate the public about the life-saving importance of following safety protocols at railway crossings.
The street play dramatized real-life scenarios where individuals recklessly ignored railway signals or tried to cross tracks in haste. Through a compelling and relatable performance, the actors emphasized how a moment of negligence can lead to irreversible tragedy.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Vinay Kumar, Principal of the Konkan Railway Academy, stressed the urgent need for caution and discipline at level crossings. “Negligence at these points can result in the loss of innocent lives. Whether you’re a pedestrian or a driver, strict adherence to safety rules is non-negotiable,” he said.
The event drew participation from local residents, daily commuters, and schoolchildren. Safety pamphlets were distributed, highlighting key dos and don’ts—such as never crossing when gates are closed, waiting patiently for signals to clear, and always being alert near tracks.
This awareness drive is part of Konkan Railway’s larger mission to enhance public safety and minimize accidents at manned and unmanned crossings.
