MARGAO: The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has extended the application deadline for 170 job vacancies, a decision that has been welcomed by local leaders. However, Margao Congress functionary Savio Coutinho and others have criticised political figures for allowing KRCL to “sell off” land sacrificed by Goans to a non-Goan agency for the construction of commercial premises.
Two weeks ago, Coutinho led a delegation of land losers in presenting a memorandum to South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes, advocating for the extension of the application deadline and seeking self-employment opportunities for local youth.
At a press conference, Coutinho emphasised the importance of raising awareness about these job opportunities and urged elected representatives, including the Chief Minister, to advocate for maximum job quotas for Goan youth.
Addressing the new commercial premises being developed at the Margao Railway station, Coutinho expressed surprise at the revelation that a private agency was responsible for the construction and leasing rights. He questioned the silence of local political leaders while land sacrificed by Goans is being exploited.
