In Goa, the occasion was marked symbolically in the state Assembly. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and several MLAs wore traditional red Kunbi stoles, honouring the fabric as “Kunbi: The pride of Goan textile.” A minor political exchange unfolded between the ruling and opposition benches over the distribution of the stoles, adding a local flavour to the national celebration.

India observed the 11th National Handloom Day on August 7, 2025, with a grand celebration at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The occasion honoured the enduring legacy, artistic excellence, and economic impact of the handloom sector, which supports over 35 lakh artisans across the country. This year’s theme focused on celebrating the invaluable contribution of weavers while embracing innovation in handloom craftsmanship.

The President of India attended the event and presented the prestigious Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and National Handloom Awards. These honours were bestowed upon distinguished weavers, designers, and producers in recognition of their skill, creativity, and commitment to preserving India’s handloom heritage.
