Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has reaffirmed that the Latambarcem Industrial Estate in North Goa will be reserved solely for food processing industries. Dismissing speculation about other types of industrial activity, Sawant stated, “We have received several proposals for non-food industries, but I have personally rejected them. No permission will be granted for any industry that does not fall under food processing.”

This decision aligns with the state government’s broader vision to promote agro-based industries and strengthen Goa’s agricultural economy. By dedicating the estate exclusively to food processing, the government aims to create direct opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs, simplify raw material sourcing, and boost job creation in the food sector.

Officials noted that the estate’s food-processing focus is a strategic move to attract investment that enhances the value of local produce, fosters innovation in food technology, and supports sustainable industrial growth.

The policy has been welcomed by stakeholders in agriculture and food production, who believe that a dedicated estate will improve logistics, quality standards, and market access. Clustering similar industries in one location is also expected to enable shared infrastructure and collaborative development.

With this decision, the Goa government is underscoring its commitment to responsible and targeted industrial development—one that prioritizes value addition, supports rural livelihoods, and promotes long-term economic sustainability.
