CALANGUTE: Four visually-impaired tourists from Karnataka, three men and a woman aged between 22-43, were saved from drowning by lifesavers off Baga beach on Friday evening.

The four, seated near the shoreline at Baga beach, were unexpectedly pulled into the sea by a sudden rise in water levels. When they could not find their balance on an uneven patch of the sea bed, they struggled to stay afloat and started drowning.

Spotting them struggling, lifesavers immediately rushed to rescue them with surfboards and rescue tubes.

Several beaches in the state had recently witnessed unusually high tidal movement, with sea water inundating several beach shacks along the coastline.
