Despite having a designated parking area inside the South Goa District Hospital (Hospicio), many four-wheeler owners continue to park on the main road, creating serious safety hazards for pedestrians and commuters. The vehicles lining the busy stretch force people to walk on the road, increasing the risk of accidents.
The problem is compounded by the lack of a proper system for taxis, rickshaws, and motorcycle taxis. These transport services, crucial for patients and visitors, are often found crowding the entrance instead of being stationed inside the premises where they belong.
Residents and visitors have long expressed frustration over this issue, blaming poor enforcement and mismanagement of parking spaces. While basement parking is available, it remains restricted to hospital staff, leaving visitors with few options—forcing an overflow onto the street.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has strongly urged hospital and district authorities to act. He has called for clear no-parking enforcement and the setup of dedicated taxi and rickshaw stands inside the hospital to reduce roadside congestion and improve accessibility.
Although the District Magistrate has occasionally issued prohibitory orders to manage the problem, locals say enforcement is inconsistent and ineffective. Many agree that only a sustained, well-planned effort can bring lasting relief to this chronic issue around South Goa’s key medical facility.
