Liquor Smuggling, Bribery Claims Rock Goa’s Patradevi Checkpost

Activist Sanjay Barde has raised serious concerns about ongoing corruption at the Patradevi checkpost in Goa. Despite a "Zero Tolerance to Corruption" notice that was previously displayed below the Excise Department board, Barde alleges that bribery continues unchecked, particularly involving police officers extorting money from truck drivers.

This corruption reportedly ranges from ₹20 to ₹450 per vehicle per trip, as exposed in recent sting operations. No official action has yet been taken to address the issue, fueling public frustration and suspicion of negligence or complicity among authorities. Barde has specifically called for the reinstallation of the “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” notice to reaffirm commitment to ethical conduct. Moreover, he urges the government to install CCTV cameras at the checkpost to monitor activities in real-time, enhancing transparency and accountability.

This would help deter corrupt practices and provide evidence for investigation and prosecution. The Patradevi checkpost is a critical control point for excise and border security in Goa, and corruption here undermines law enforcement and facilitates illegal activities like liquor smuggling, which was recently busted at the same checkpost involving high-value liquor consignments.
