Mirabag Residents Protest Bandara Project on Zuari River, Accuse Betrayal from Supporters

Residents of Mirabag have voiced strong opposition to the proposed bandara project at Falnem, Sanvordem, located along the Zuari River, raising concerns about the potential destruction of their village and the safety of their homes. Locals are particularly worried that around 15 houses near the river's edge could be at risk of being damaged or washed away during floods if the project moves forward.

This project has stirred memories of a similar proposal in Mirabag, which was also met with fierce resistance from the community. In an interesting twist, some individuals who previously supported the Mirabag bandara project are now opposing the Falnem project, sparking accusations of inconsistency and betrayal.

Sanjay Naik, the local panch member, voiced his concerns about the project's approval, calling the shift in support a “betrayal” to the villagers. He reminded the public that when the Mirabag Bandara project was proposed, it was ultimately cancelled due to overwhelming opposition from local residents. During that time, rumors had circulated that panch members and others involved in the decision-making process were allegedly offered bribes in exchange for allowing the project.

Now, Sanjay Naik is questioning those who have switched their stance and accepted the Falnem project, asking, “What changed? Why is the project now being pushed forward when it was previously opposed for the same reasons?”

The debate over the Bandara project in Falnem highlights ongoing concerns over environmental impact, flood risks, and the integrity of local governance, as the community continues to stand firm against developments, they believe could threaten their homes and livelihood.
