Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao expressed strong disappointment after the acclaimed Marathi play "Purush" was halted midway at Kala Academy, citing yet another technical glitch as the cause. The incident has reignited concerns over the infrastructure quality following the much-publicized refurbishment of the premier cultural venue.

Alemao criticized the authorities for ignoring repeated complaints by Goan artistes about faulty equipment and technical errors post-renovation.

“It is disheartening to see a powerful play like Purush being disrupted. Goan artistes have consistently raised concerns about the Kala Academy’s infrastructure, but their voices seem to fall on deaf ears,” Alemao said.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from the local arts community, many of whom have highlighted similar disruptions and poor backstage conditions since the reopening of the venue. Cultural stakeholders are now urging a transparent audit of the Kala Academy’s renovation work and accountability from those responsible.

This marks the latest in a series of setbacks at the state-run cultural hub, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of its refurbishment and the impact on Goa’s thriving performing arts scene.
