The North Goa Additional Sessions Court has sentenced Vinod Chawan, a resident of Pandarpur, Maharashtra, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of narcotics. Chawan was arrested on November 11, 2017, near the Panaji market while carrying 1.10 kilograms of ganja.

The case, investigated by PI Arun Dessai, then serving as a Police Sub-Inspector, was meticulously examined in court. Following the trial, Chawan was found guilty under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine, highlighting the judiciary’s stringent approach toward drug offenses.

This verdict underscores Goa’s legal and law enforcement authorities’ unwavering commitment to tackling drug trafficking and safeguarding public safety. The prosecution, led by PI Arun Dessai, successfully presented compelling evidence that secured the conviction.

The case stands as a strong deterrent to those engaged in the illegal drug trade and reaffirms ongoing efforts by Goa’s authorities to curb narcotics-related crimes.
