
The Valpoi police on Saturday arrested Yogesh Subhash Rane, 27, of Sankhali, for assaulting and grievously injuring Aniket Singbal, also from Sankhali, with a sharp weapon during a late-night altercation at Poriem.
Singbal sustained serious head injuries and was admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sankhali for treatment. The altercation reportedly erupted over a dispute regarding a parked vehicle outside a restaurant.
The incident occurred at around 2.20 a.m. on Saturday. Upon receiving the information, Bicholim PI Vijay Rane, who also holds additional charge of Valpoi Police Station and was on night patrol in the Bicholim and Sankhali areas, rushed to the scene with his team.
The police promptly shifted the injured to CHC Sankhali and, in a swift and coordinated operation, apprehended the accused within 30 minutes of the incident.
A complaint in this regard has been recorded from the injured victim. Police stated that the motive behind the crime was a verbal spat and physical scuffle over the accused’s vehicle parked on the road.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP North Rahul Gupta, IPS, and Bicholim SDPO Wilson D'Souza.
An offence involving attempt to murder and criminal intimidation has been registered against the accused under Sections 118(2), 351(2), 352 and 109 of the BNS 2023. PSI Prathamesh Gawas of Valpoi Police Station is conducting further investigations.
