A 38-year-old man, Bishnu from Kolkata, has been arrested for his involvement in multiple temple thefts across Goa. The arrest was made by Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar of the Mopa Airport Police Station at Warkhand junction, where Bishnu was spotted riding a motorcycle suspiciously. Following reports of temple robberies in the Pernem Sub-Division, Mopa Police had intensified patrolling in the area.
On September 7, around 3:15 pm, PI Chimulkar noticed Bishnu, wearing a sweat T-shirt and helmet, riding a Splendor motorcycle. The man matched the individual captured on CCTV during a theft at Shree Vetal Temple, Alorna, Pernem, on August 15. When police attempted to intercept him, Bishnu tried to flee towards Dhargal but was chased and apprehended. A search of his backpack revealed a pickaxe, screwdriver, and Rs. 910 in small denominations, suspected to be stolen from temple donation boxes.
