Mandre High School Introduces Bird Watching Activity to Promote Biodiversity Awareness

In a unique step towards promoting environmental awareness, Mandre High School recently organized a special bird watching activity for students of Classes VI and X, aligning with the goals of the New Education Policy (NEP). The initiative aimed to foster a deeper understanding of biodiversity and nurture a connection with nature among young learners.

Renowned bird enthusiast Manjit Gavas led the session as the resource person. The activity was divided into two interactive parts. In the first session, Gavas presented detailed information about various local bird species through a visually engaging PowerPoint presentation. This was followed by a hands-on bird watching session on the school premises, where students used binoculars to spot and study different bird species.

As they observed the birds’ colors, calls, shapes, and flight patterns, students experienced the joy of engaging with the natural world. The activity was conducted under the guidance of the school’s teaching staff, who helped students record their observations and later facilitated a discussion session to reflect on their learning.

Principal Aparna Prabhu emphasized the value of such nature-based learning experiences. “Activities that connect students with nature help develop both sensitivity and a scientific outlook,” she said, underlining the school’s commitment to holistic and environmentally conscious education.
