The Mapusa-Porvorim road has become increasingly perilous for motorists, with crumbling service lanes and deep potholes posing serious risks to two-wheelers and four-wheelers alike. Large sections of the poorly constructed service roads have been washed away during recent rains, leaving the already narrow stretches even more treacherous.
Local residents and commuters allege that substandard materials were used by the contractor tasked with building and maintaining the road. Equally concerning is the lack of proper oversight by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway Division, who have failed to hold the contractor accountable for the poor quality of work.
Many are questioning whether the government is simply waiting for serious accidents or fatalities before taking action to repair the damage and ensure safer conditions. The situation has prompted growing calls for urgent intervention to prevent further tragedies.
