MARGAO: The Mardol police on Saturday rearrested queen-pin Pooja Naik on the charge of abetment to suicide of Shridhar Satarkar alias Kerkar (51), a government employee residing at Nallem-Querim, Ponda.
Following Satarkar’s death by suicide after being summoned twice by the Mardol police in connection with the Pooja Naik cash-for-job scam, his wife Shruti filed a complaint against Pooja for abetment to suicide, on November 4.
The police stated that prior to October 30, 2024 on different occasions accused Pooja Naik collected the money through Shridhar Satarkar alias Kerkar from the several persons on the pretext of providing government jobs. But she did not provide any job as assured nor returned the money, thereby causing harassment, cheating and mental torture to Shridhar Satarkar and further abetting him to commit suicide.
Satarkar was reported missing from October 30 and his decomposed body was found on November 2.
The Mardol police took Pooja on transfer warrant from the Porvorim police station, for investigation in the abetment to suicide case and placed her under arrest.
The case is registered under Section 108 of BNS 2023 and PSI Rochan martins is conducting investigations under the guidance of Mardol PI Yogesh Sawant.
Earlier, the Porvorim police on Saturday produced Pooja before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, who remanded her in 14 days judicial custody.
The Porvorim police had arrested Pooja Naik for allegedly dishonestly and fraudulently induced one Priya Mandrekar to transfer an amount of Rs 4 lakh in the bank account of Ajit Satarkar and Anisha Satarkar on the pretext of giving her a government job.
Mandrekar, a resident of Porvorim had complained that the accused duped her at Porvorim sometime between November 2021 and December 12, 2021. However, Satarkar in his statement told the police that he handed over the money to Pooja.
