MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police have registered an offence against Lady Police Sub-Inspector (LPSI) Anoushka Parab of the Margao Police Station in connection with the suicide of senior advocate Jayant Prabhu. The police have also moved a note to senior officers proposing that the case be transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.

According to police sources, the Maina-Curtorim police have prepared a note sheet requesting that senior officers refer the suicide case to the Crime Branch for a more in-depth investigation. This note will be forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, South Goa, and subsequently to Panjim, where a final decision will be taken.

The offence was registered on Friday night under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint lodged by advocate Ashish Prabhu, the son of the deceased. The complaint states that on August 28, at around 10.05 pm, LPSI Anoushka Parab, along with a police constable from Margao Town Police Station, visited the Prabhu family’s residence in Baga-Davorlim. The officers were searching for the complainant’s older brother, Pritish Prabhu, who was accused of alleged sexual harassment by a female advocate on August 24.

During the visit, the officers allegedly behaved rudely with Jayant Prabhu, the complainant’s father. This behaviour reportedly caused significant distress and depression in Prabhu, leading him to take his own life at his residence on the morning of August 29.
